At the age of 15, Chubby was accustomed to most of his day being on public transportation. In order to get to school, he caught the Green Line, to get to the Blue Line and onto the city bus right after. Even though being on a bus five days a week seems like a headache, for Chubby, it was a chance to experience freedom at an early age.
Through every encounter he faces, there is a story to be told and an emotion to be discovered. Growing up in South Central, he experienced what everyday life was like for his community. The majority of his encounters were met with crowded buses, sketchy passengers or music-blaring bus rides. While some people might associate these circumstances in a negative light, it’s quite different for Chubby. His perception of the Metro is shaped with a childhood full of love.
“The Metro not only allowed me to save money but also took a lot of stress off my shoulders,” says Chubby. “It gave me peace of mind knowing that I can focus on other aspects of my daily routine.
”When on board, Chubby chooses to spend his time reading a book or absorbing life through the window of each bus. For him, bus rides are a journey worth seeing. And while he’s since graduated, Chubby continues to ride the bus purely for its practicality.
At 02 Veedá, it was important to choose a model that cherished the Metro for more than what it is. In conversation with Chubby, he defined the emotion we want out of travelers alike. And much like his photo on the Sixth Street Bridge, there are always new sights to see.
